What is your ‘neutral position’?

What is your ‘neutral position’?

A few days ago I did a training and I was really astonished. We were talking about body language and everybody had just done a first exercise where they just shared an anecdote. I don’t even listen that much to the content when they do this exercise, I mainly watch if they manage to be natural when standing in front of their audience.

I see so┬ámany people struggling. They don’t know what to do with their hands. I mainly look at what their ‘neutral position’ is. This is what you do with your hands when you are NOT talking. The split second before you start. Pauzes in between. Some people use a lot their hands when they talk, others don’t and this all depends on your style but you all need a neutral position. Watch experienced people! You can look at TED talks, you can look at speakers in your company. Most will have a neutral┬áposition that looks like the picture I added. This position works with a cue card, with a remote controle and even when you don’t have anything to hold on to.
